The Race Against the Mountain

Racers from around the world are gearing up for the annual Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon, a grueling challenge that tests the limits of human endurance.

The Ascent, scheduled for August 19, 2023, is a 13.3-mile uphill race that gains a staggering 7,815 feet of elevation. The Marathon, held on the same day, is a 26.2-mile loop that includes both the Ascent and an additional 12.9 miles of challenging terrain.

A History of Grit and Determination

The Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon have a long and storied history, dating back to 1916. The inaugural Ascent was won by Dr. John Francis Bolles, who ascended the mountain in 2 hours and 3 minutes.

Over the years, the event has attracted some of the world's top runners, including Matt Carpenter, who holds the current Ascent record of 2 hours, 12 minutes, 40 seconds, and Melissa Moon, who set the Marathon record of 3 hours, 49 minutes, 46 seconds in 2019.

Preparing for the Challenge

Preparing for the Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon requires a rigorous training regimen and a deep understanding of the challenges that lie ahead.
