New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez Convicted on All Counts in Corruption Trial
Bribery, Conspiracy, and Obstruction of Justice Among the Charges
A jury has found New Jersey Democratic Senator Bob Menendez guilty on all 16 counts in his federal corruption trial.
The charges against Menendez include bribery, conspiracy, and obstruction of justice, stemming from allegations that he accepted bribes from a wealthy Florida eye doctor in exchange for political favors, including intervening on the doctor's behalf in a Medicare billing dispute.
The jury deliberated for more than 10 days before reaching a verdict. Menendez was acquitted on one count of false statements, but was found guilty on all other charges, including nine counts of bribery, one count of conspiracy to commit bribery, one count of conspiracy to commit honest services fraud, one count of attempted extortion, and four counts of obstruction of justice.
Menendez has denied any wrongdoing and has vowed to appeal the verdict. He remains in office pending the outcome of his appeal.
