Coco Gauff, the 18-year-old American tennis star, continued her impressive run at the US Open on Monday by defeating Tatjana Maria of Germany in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.

Gauff dominates early

Gauff took control of the match from the start, breaking Maria's serve in the first game and never looking back. She won the first set in just 32 minutes, hitting 10 winners and making only 5 unforced errors.

Maria, who had upset Maria Sakkari in the previous round, was unable to find her rhythm against Gauff's powerful groundstrokes and aggressive play.

Gauff holds on for victory

Gauff continued to dominate in the second set, breaking Maria's serve again in the third game. However, Maria fought back and broke Gauff's serve in the sixth game to make it 4-2.

Gauff regained her composure and won the next two games to move to within one game of victory. Maria saved three match points in the eighth game, but Gauff eventually closed out the match in the 10th game.

Gauff advances to quarterfinals

With the win, Gauff advances to the quarterfinals of the US Open for the third time in her career. She will face Varvara Gracheva of Russia in the quarterfinals.

Gauff has been in impressive form at the US Open this year, winning all four of her matches in straight sets. She has yet to drop a set in the tournament.

Gauff is now one of the favorites to win the US Open title. She is the youngest player to reach the quarterfinals of the US Open since Maria Sharapova in 2005.
